In the near towns Stresa, Verbania, Gravellona, Domodossola, Arona, Borgomanero is possible to go shopping in many different ways.
In the area of Cusio, identified as the area of household products and specialised in the metal manifacturing, there are famous companies such as: ALESSI, LAGOSTINA, BIALETTI, PIAZZA, CALDERONI, GIRMI.
Strona Valley is specialised in the wood manufacturing, like Pinocchio statuettes, and in the “puncetto” a kind of embroidery with small points, named also “saracen lace”; there are several local handicrafts and markets in the festivals organised all year long.
From Baveno, near Stresa, and in all the Ossola there are several granite and serizzi caves, where you can buy artefacts created upon request by handicrafts and companies which are selling different objects for internal ad external use.
There are famous flower nurseries, floriculturists who are cultivating above all camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons and who are proposing guided tours with purchasing of their famous “cultivars”. Most of them take part also to fair and expositions.
There are a lot of clothing shops to be mentioned: the Outlet di Vicolongo and the textile manufactures such as COLOMBO, CRESPI, LORO PIANA, HERNO with their selling points.
Naturally these hills present also an huge enogastronomical offer which shepherds, breeders, beekeepers, farmers and winemakers who for hundreds of years have kept and sharpened to supply genuine niche products of high quality, produced and eaten with zero food miles, , which have not been produced on a large scale.
Some local specialities are: “Fermo Morniroli’s infusions”, specialised in bitters and “liqueurs ratafià”.
The association “Erba Böna” with its many products made with local herbs.
Local wine producers, who make, for example “prunett” realised with the cultivated grapes on the terracings in Masera, Trontano and Monte Crestese.
Lake and river fishes, perches, lavarello, salmerino, fresh consumed or with sweet and sour sauce in the different restaurants on the territory.
Meat, cold cuts and cheeses, which butchers, shepherds and local producers are transforming in real delicious dishes such as “the goat or chamois violin”, a kind of raw ham, of the Val Vigezzo, the “Moccetta”, the “Bresaola” of Devero, aromatised with cinnamon and cloves, cheeses of mountain pastures with different ageing levels like the “Bettelmatt”, the smoked ricottas etc.
Some marks were created above all to spread and commercialise the products of this territory like “BRENCIO”, which can give also the possibility of visiting the rooms where the sold foods are prepared and packed.
There are several beekeepers which are producing high quality honey with decisive tastes: chestnut, rhododendron, wildflowers, linden.
What concerns the cakes, there are different specialities like “le Margheritine di Stresa”, the “Brutti ma Buoni” of Verbania, “la Fugascina” of Baveno, produced by different pastry shops such as the historical ones “Bolongaro” and “Gigi Bar” in Stresa, “La casa del dolce” in Intra etc.
Being so well connected with the motorway, we are just at a small distance, only 50 Km, from the city of Milan, where, besides the sights, you also should pay a visit to the fashion area, with its labels, well or less known, but always high-quality and visit the gastronomical sector.
The food and fashion areas and streets are really a lot and the choice is becoming really hard.
Last but not least being so near, by car or by train, to the Exhibition sites of Milano-Rho Exhibition and Milano-City, with their off-side events always worth to be visited.
